In our Vision, drug discovery units use the pathway view of disease relevant
biochemical mechanisms as a backbone in their target validation process. The
company or project specific view of important biochemical pathways is visualized
in PathwayLab and is used to link to internal and external information of different
kinds. Groups that are working in separate projects have immediate and updated
access to the work of their colleagues. Gene expression data is incorporated
and analyzed in the models, knockout experiments are being performed in silico,
etc. All this saves time and wet experiments can be planned more efficiently!
Hypothesis testing is simple and the model is gradually and constantly improved
to comprise all known information about the particular pathways and thereby
securing the intellectual properties it represents.
The collaborative work process will increase creativity when experts in different
areas collect their know-how in a common model. On-line meetings will be facilitated
and target decisions can be made with a wider acceptance and based on all available
knowledge.
All this requires a technology that is open and flexible and which supports
cooperation and information sharing, which are all characteristics of PathwayLab.
